Understand what Adjustibl handles, when an accountant can still help, and why AI works better alongside a consistent calculation engine.

Why do I need to do this myself?

Your brokerage gives you statements and transaction records, but it does not always have the complete picture.

You may hold the same investment at several brokerages. You may have transferred assets between accounts, bought securities in different currencies, or received adjustments that appear differently on each statement. One brokerage cannot calculate from information held by another brokerage.

An accountant also only knows what you give them. If a transaction is missing, an account is placed under the wrong treatment, or a transfer looks like a sale, they may not have enough context to notice.

Doing this yourself does not mean calculating everything by hand. Adjustibl handles the calculations. Your part is importing the records, confirming what the accounts represent, and reviewing anything that needs your knowledge.

You know your investment history better than your brokerage, accountant, or software does. Adjustibl gives you a practical way to turn that knowledge into a complete record.

Do I need an accountant after I use Adjustibl?

Not necessarily, but Adjustibl is not a replacement for an accountant.

If your situation is straightforward and you are comfortable preparing your own return, Adjustibl can give you organized records and calculations to work from.

An accountant can still be useful when:

  • You are unsure whether activity should be treated as capital or business
  • Investments are held through a corporation, trust, or partnership
  • Records are missing or disagree with each other
  • You need to make an election or amend an earlier return
  • The CRA asks questions about a calculation
  • You simply want a professional review before filing

Adjustibl can make that conversation much better. Instead of giving your accountant a folder of statements and waiting for a final number, you can give them organized transactions, reports, and the calculations behind each result.

You can still question something that does not look right, and your accountant can spend more time reviewing the important decisions instead of rebuilding your transaction history.

Can AI not do all this?

AI can help with a lot of the work. It can read a brokerage file, reorganize columns, explain a calculation, and answer questions about your records.

But complex investment calculations are not just a matter of looking at one transaction and doing some arithmetic.

A sale can depend on purchases made years earlier, activity at another brokerage, exchange rates from different dates, commissions, transfers, superficial losses, and linked option transactions. Each calculation changes the information needed by the next one.

AI models can lose track of that history, apply a rule inconsistently, or produce a confident answer based on an assumption you never approved. The answer may sound convincing even when one step is wrong.

Manual corrections can also become awkward. If you tell an AI that transaction 112 was wrong, it may fix the immediate answer without consistently recalculating every later transaction affected by the change. It can be difficult to know what changed, why it changed, and whether the correction will still be there the next time you ask.

Adjustibl uses a consistent calculation engine and keeps the transactions, edits, and results together. The same records produce the same calculation, and changes can be reviewed instead of disappearing into a chat.

AI is still very useful. It is good at helping you explore the records, asking questions in plain language, and explaining unfamiliar results. It works best as the way you talk to your investment history, not as the only place where that history and its calculations exist.
